Calix AXOS Standardizes OSS/BSS Integration – Ushers in Transformative Era of any PHY, any PON Service Delivery
GLDS leverages AXOS interfaces and unique service abstraction layer for rapid service provider deployments
PETALUMA, CA – March 29, 2017 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX), the world leader in Subscriber Driven Intelligent Access, today announced that leading customer management and billing solutions provider GLDS is leveraging the AXOS common service model and standards based interfaces to achieve a revolutionary “integrate once, deploy often” business transformation. AXOS, the only true SDA, removes the shackles of recurring OSS/BSS integration costs by allowing service providers to integrate AXOS without the burden of massive custom IT and development costs. Once tested and integrated using the Calix AXOS set of open APIs and common service data models, Calix customers will be able to rapidly adopt new AXOS systems supporting any PON and any PHY, well ahead of their competition.
“All service providers face the same fundamental challenges – high IT costs, complex OSS/BSS systems, and long integration cycles for new technologies and services,” said Shane Eleniak, Calix vice president of product line leadership. “Utilizing the unmatched service abstraction layer and common data model built into the core of the AXOS architecture, Calix is fundamentally changing the way new technologies are operationalized. We’ve abstracted the service layer as well as the hardware layer, so we can re-use the OSS integration and apply it to any solution creating a true any PON and any PHY experience for service providers. The integration seal of approval from our billing and operational system partners like GLDS gives our joint customers the ability to deploy AXOS systems in any environment in a fraction of the time and win in the competitive marketplace.”
“GLDS has a long partnership with Calix and we have installed our solutions on behalf of hundreds of service providers worldwide. When AXOS, with its standard REST and NETCONF interfaces and a common YANG service model, became available to us, it was clearly a leap forward,” said Garrick Russell, president of GLDS. “We are integrated with Calix GPON/CMS solutions today and will leverage the fully virtualized Calix AXOS Sandbox product to quickly move on to G.fast, NG-PON2, and wherever our customers need us to go – sometimes even before systems are available. AXOS and AXOS Sandbox will make integration more efficient and streamlined for us as new Calix technologies come to market. We are hopeful that, with this new effort, GLDS and Calix will be able to speed new solutions to our mutual customers in a fraction of the time, enabling them to beat their competition to the punch.”
AXOS Sandbox, a fully virtualized AXOS system software implementation, complements the AXOS architecture and speeds OSS/BSS integration in a risk-free environment. AXOS Sandbox enables virtual instances of production Calix system software, allowing partners like GLDS to create a high-fidelity subscriber-driven virtual network in order to test the complete broadband experience without the burdensome costs and hassles associated with traditional physical system deployment testing. AXOS Sandbox exercises not only the management plane of the AXOS systems, but also the data plane and control plane.
“Our partnership with GLDS marks an important milestone in the evolution of access networks, and the beginning of the Calix AXOS Ready ecosystem,” states Michael Weening, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Calix. “GLDS is the first to integrate their technology with AXOS. This ecosystem will expand rapidly beyond OSS/BSS integration as additional partners embrace the value of having SDA-enabled intelligence embedded deep within the network, close to the subscriber.”
